2011 5K Peace, Water & Wisdom Race
Sometimes we’re completely humbled by the extraordinary lengths which young people will go to join and help our cause. BARKA Foundation has been working with John Bapst’s Student Environmental Action Committee (SEAC) for the past two years. Our relationship began with a lecture and a visit by Auguste Lompo, a visitor from Burkina Faso. Last year, SEAC organized a community walk for water through downtown Bangor to raise awareness of Burkina’s need for clean water. This event received a written endorsement from Senator Susan Collins. Over the summer, several students worked to organize a the 5K Peace, Water & Wisdom Race/Walk which took place on October 2nd. Visit the unique site students created for the event here. Several local Bangor businesses are sponsoring the event including Road ID, Poland Spring, Coca Cola, Tim Horton’s, Bagel Central, Java Joe’s, Hannaford’s, Chili’s, Epic Sports and Maine Magazine.
