Technology

Technology is a fascinating issue for BARKA Foundation. On the one hand, we understand its vital importance in the empowerment of an indigenous village. At the same time, we are watchdogs to ensure the preservation of indigenous culture and identity. Hi-tech is the battleground for some of the most compelling issues in the field of development.
- We are guided on this issue by the villagers themselves.
- BARKA serves to mitigate the dangers of westernization, while working to accentuate the positive impacts to be had, such as connecting with the larger world, opening doors for education, and improving quality of life.
- BARKA strives to integrate indigenous and modern technologies. For example, elders and diviners are consulted to determine how to introduce modern technology into village life.
To our knowledge this vital form of respect, sensitivity and reciprocity is uncommonly seen in NGOs working to serve indigenous villages. This is one of the unique aspects that makes the new model BARKA is co-creating particularly relevant and significant to the global community.
The indigenous paradigm is endangered. This is a precious way of life that has much to teach the modern world about sustainability, balance and other vital ingredients of “living well” which the modern world has forgotten. BARKA is a bridge between these two worlds.
