BARKA Foundation’s theatre troupe was commissioned to create a new theatrical play about AGROECOLOGY by Association Nourrir sans Détruire (ANSD), an incredible country-based organization in Burkina Faso working to strengthen rural communities, especially women, to overcome hunger and promote socio-economic development. Our creative team worked with ANSD’s experts to fully understand a wide range of potential innovations to enrich and regenerate depleted soil, to better retain moisture, and to adapt to a changing climate. These were then woven into a new original play and performed to thousands of smallholder farmers in villages where ANSD implements its programs. The result was a resounding success. Farmers retained the new agroecological techniques, understood their benefits and were ready to try them out in their own fields.
